Save the Children, Save their Lives
Simon Estes, 86BM

From Iowa to Africa, Simon Estes continues to spread his love of classical music—and of children.

This past summer, the renowned opera singer performed at the World Cup soccer tournament with a youth choir from the high school in Cape Town, South Africa, that he established to serve some of the country's poorest students. Now, Estes is working on a musical tour encompassing the 99 counties in his home state of Iowa. He's also released a CD of his favorite spirituals and folk songs to help raise money for children.

Proceeds from Save the Children, Save their Lives will fund scholarships for his South African school, as well as Wartburg College and Iowa State University (where the bass-baritone is a distinguished professor and artist-in-residence), and other efforts around the world to help students in need.

The CD, priced $15 plus $3 shipping, is available from Wartburg College at 800/772- 2085.
