Outside Carver-Hawkeye Arena on a recent graduation day, Soo Kyum Kim of Daegu, South Korea, documented the well-deserved, hat-tossing jubilation of two close friends.
Because international students atsend separate orientation activities, they don't often get a birds'-eye view of what summer orientation is like for U.S. citizens. Chenzhe Zhu of Hangzhou, China, snapped this shot while observing last year's hustle and bustle at the Iowa Memorial Union Main Ballroom.
Few things are more American than a Fourth of July fireworks show. Although already having studied for the past four years in the United States, Chenzhe Zhu of Hangzhou, China, attended Iowa City's display over Old Capitol for the first time last summer.
Evan Kurtz took this breathtaking picture inside Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. "After a grueling day of hiking through the mountains on a windy and rainy day, my friend and I stopped and saw an amazing sight that really uplifted our spirits," says Kurtz of Bettendorf, Iowa. "Before us was a massive lake with glowing blue glaciers and a massive rainbow that stretched across the sky. It was incredible."
In a move that illustrates the adventure of international travel, Sarah Steffens of Roselle, Illinois, bravely paraglided off a mountain in Pokhara, Nepal, to sail over the Annapurna Range of the Himalayas.
inter illuminations at Mt. Fuji represent an important part of the Japanese culture during the holidays, a time to celebrate happiness and family. Thien-trang Pham of West Des Moines, Iowa, visited Mie, Japan, for this special ceremony, in which people surround Mt. Fuji to watch millions of lights change colors in representation of the four seasons.

Brigette Burgman of St. Charles, Illinois, discovered an enchanted spot in the mountains with a view of the Alhambra palace and snowcapped peaks of Granada, Spain. There, a trio of Spanish guitarists played traditional music for locals and tourists who arrived to enjoy the beautiful scenery, listen to music, and watch traveling gypsies sell their jewelry and art.
